The Environment

I share what I mean when I talk about "the environment," how it may be impacting us, and how to grow through it!

I talk a lot about “the environment” and for good reason! The reason I do so is because there’s nothing inherently wrong with you! The environments we are in and exposed to play a much larger role than we give them credit for! And sometimes, the environment is what may actually be at play because we are only as healthy as our environment at that time.

So what do I mean by “the environment”? The environment includes all the things surrounding us which influence us internally.

Examples include:

  • the food we eat,

  • the substances we consume,

  • the romantic relationships we are in,

  • the friendships we hold,

  • our living situation,

  • our workplace,

  • the neighborhood/community we live in

  • the people we interact with regularly, etc.

Sometimes, we are just coping with dysfunctional environments in a dysfunctional manner! Unless we realize and acknowledge the role that the environment plays, then we may continue to show up in the same unhealthy ways! Can we cope with dysfunctional environments in healthy manners? That’s the question! Every situation is different, and how sustainable this may or may not be varies by situation. So, to a certain extent, yes. Sometimes it’s a short-term option but not a long-term solution. We can work together to bring these dynamics to light for you in order to bring more awareness to the specific situation.

I know learning about the environment can be difficult, we too often want to blame ourselves for things that are actually outside of our control. Though, can we change our environments? That’s another great question! Potentially, yes! Environments are things we can change, influence, or shift by assessing our values, enhancing our choice-making abilities, and exerting our agency. This may first involve any combination of: examining our internal processes, letting go, acceptance, and making mental, emotional, and/or lifestyle changes. Again, each situation is unique, and is able to be explored more in-depth through our sessions.

All of this is shared with you in order to bring you one thing: hope. You are able to remind yourself that there is nothing wrong with you. You are okay. You are also able to restore yourself to well-being when you make the necessary changes in order to bring yourself further learning and relief. Don’t blame yourself! You need the right environments in order to flowerish— growth be like that!

Keep consulting with your art and soul!
