MY APPROACH

If you're open to creativity and laughter, I'm your therapist

Yesenia Villa Latina Art Therapist

I believe that feeling seen, heard, and validated within an authentic connection is the basis for healing and transformation. I strive to offer you a non-judgmental, gentle, and safe space where you can see your true potential and flourish in that awareness. I am insight-orienting, yet playful in my approach, intuiting to offer you clarity and help you make the necessary shifts to your thoughts, feelings, and actions so that you may feel empowered and relieved sooner rather than later.

When collaborating with children, I offer non-directive (child-led)  play and art therapies which allow children to process and find healing in their developmental language. Similarly with adolescents, the entire duration of our therapy is predominantly dedicated to rapport and relationship-building through play, art, and conversation. As such, this creates an invitational space for adolescents to feel safe enough to share and unburden themselves. In my experience providing therapy online, connection is still completely possible- I have been able to build rapport with adolescents over video therapy with cameras off- so I feel confident in the authentic connection that can also be established through that medium if necessary. You are welcome to learn more about online adult therapy with me and art therapy in my blog posts.

Personally, my self-cultivation has been through my own healing in collaboration with diverse healers. I have training in and/or experience with: meditation, mindfulness, self-compassion, spirituality, intuitive development, qi gong, curanderismo, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)/tapping, energy psychology, somatic interventions, foot zonology, neurolinguistic programming (NLP), and the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle. I love practicing yoga, spending time in nature, and creating my own art. My favorite forms of art to engage in and enjoy are: writing, poetry, designing stickers of my quotes, photography, painting, visionboarding, and mini mandalas.

Professionally, I began in the field of mental health care collaborating with children and adults with developmental delays in the community, fulfilling interactions which led to me pursuing my graduate education. Since then, I have been absolutely fortunate to have had the majority of my professional experience be with children, adolescents, and adults within school settings, from TK through college. My educational background and professional experiences are delineated and may be accessed here:
